Hey y’all,
I’m 22 weeks pregnant. Yay!
A few weeks ago, I learned that my bloodwork came back positive for FY(A) antigens. Although I’ve tried to do research on my own, I haven’t been able to find any information other than what my midwife told me, which was that I basically need to find ways to take in more iron, and that the baby may be jaundiced or anemic when it’s born.
I already take an iron supplement for myself, but I immediately increased my supplement intake. More iron did help at the time since I was beginning to feel more tired than usual. However, I’ve been even more tired in the past few days, and today was CRAZY! I was exhausted all day no matter how much caffeine/sugar I consumed. Before I seriously overconsumed, I went back to the internet and attempted to do some more research. Even though I didn’t find anything more about FY(A) antigens, I did read that a standard pregnant woman requires 1,000mg of iron per day. The prenatal vitamins I have only contain 135mg! That may be enough for a “standard” woman, but I don’t think it’s good enough for me. The absolute highest mg iron supplement I own is still only 325mg. Upon finding this out, I took two of these big supplements, and I do feel quite a bit better now (it’s been a few hours). So, I guess I’ll be taking a crap ton of iron until further notice. Hopefully, this is what my body needs.
This did give me a good idea for business, though. I think I’ll be coming up with designs for anemia mugs/merch. Either there are already some cute designs that I can mimic, or there need to be some out there. Iron deficient people need cute things, too, so I’m going to make some.
