I had to lose all my money to attract money.
My husband and I moved a couple years ago when I was pregnant with our first child. Just before we had that baby, that’s when we slowly began to have less and less money. The situation really came to a peak a few months ago when my husband quit his job. It took longer than expected to find another job, and we pretty much lost all our money.
We began going to the food pantry and charity food giveaways as well as asking for and accepting money from family members. Even with all this, we were barely able to pay our mortgage, and anything extra that we needed went on the credit card which went unpaid for months.
Looking back on it now, I think a lot of the problem came from the fact that we got told by so many people that children would sap the energy and money from our lives. Since we believed that, of course we attracted that into our lives. That was totally a self-fulfilling prophecy. But when I ran some numbers, since I’m a SAHM, the amount we save on daycare costs goes up with additional children. Children can totally add whimsy and fun to life, and they don’t really cost that much – especially if there is a parent that stays at home and basically does private family daycare for you.
When we had money before, I remember being really frugal. It did help in some ways, but I think it caused more harm than good. I was way too frugal. Even though I still want to be frugal to a point, I appreciate the little things more now. If we can afford it, I’ll enjoy dessert every day, my husband will have soda available, we’ll keep simple pleasures available. Before, I didn’t have an abundance mindset. I hated paying bills. It was always, ‘Oh, we can only pay our bills.’ Now that I appreciate it more, if we can actually pay all of our bills in full, we win.
I wish I had known prior to my child being born that he wouldn’t be expensive. The dog is more expensive to keep right now than the child. But I’m so glad that I can ignore the “kids are expensive” advice leading up to baby #2.
I’ve only gotten into it for a few weeks, but having an abundance mindset has caused us to gain a ton of money over that time. And my husband is actually starting a job that will bring in more than any job prior, and I’ve already put some investments in place that will supplement his income. And, the thing is, he only got word that he had that job after I changed mindsets.
An abundance mindset has caused me to appreciate things so much more, and it has attracted so much good into our lives. I only wish I had known about it sooner, but I also know that I had to go through the experience of being broke and humbled to get to that mindset. And, because of that, I’m even grateful for the hardships.
