Hey y’all,
I finished my plarn basket!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to make plarn (or yarn from plastic grocery bags) for years. I should have done this a long time ago, but I finally looked up ‘fast and easy way to make plarn.’ Surprise, surprise, I found exactly what I was looking for. I’ll put a tutorial up soon about how I did it, but I seriously just looked that phrase up on YouTube and found the answer immediately.
Once I figured out how to make plarn, I wanted to make something useful. The problem is, most plarn projects don’t look good. The plastic doesn’t move once it’s been stretched, so you can’t really make pretty curves with it. But I fixed this problem! If the plarn doesn’t create nice curves and edges, I’ll just use regular yarn for these parts and use plarn for the rest. And it worked! I was actually able to make a pretty nice-looking bowl.
I think it’s the perfect size for a small candy dish or to hold keys on the table. And it saved a bunch of bags from going in the landfill, and that’s always good. We can save the planet and make something pretty.

If you like this bowl, I am selling it and the pattern on Etsy.
