Immunity Shots Recipe Review

Hey y’all,

I didn’t get much sleep night before last, and I was feeling a bit run down (plus, I needed to use up some carrots in the fridge). So, I decided to try a new recipe I found for Immunity Shots.

The recipe is 2 chopped carrots, 1/2 lemon, 1 orange, and 3 Tbsp of fresh ginger. I didn’t have all the fresh ingredients, so I used 2 carrots, 2 Tbsp lemon juice, 1/4 cup orange juice, 1 Tbsp ginger powder (dried powders are always stronger than fresh foods), and 2 Tbsp flax meal (because it wouldn’t be a Katie-dish if I didn’t throw in some flax). Then I blended everything up just like a smoothie.

Let me start out by saying that Immunity “Shots” is a good name for this. It tasted pretty bad – just like a shot. I needed a chaser afterward. In the future (if I ever do this again) I’m only going to add 1-1 1/2 tsp of ginger powder, and I’ll likely sweeten in up with some stevia or a banana.

However, despite tasting horrible, this did send me to the bathroom within 10 minutes. If you’re constipated, this is definitely for you. The jury’s still out on whether this helped my immune system. It seemed to give me similar energy to a green smoothie, but I have several green smoothie recipes that are much more enjoyable.

Long story short: If I had this experience to do over again, I would have made myself a green smoothie this morning and made a carrot cake smoothie later to use up those carrots.
