Today, I’m 24 years old.
Since it’s my birthday, let’s have story-time.
Here’s a funny one. So, I’m 24, but I could probably pass for a high school sophomore if I wanted to (or even if I don’t want to). I’m told that someday I’ll appreciate my young looks, but I question that. My sister’s in her 40s, and people mistake her for being in her late 20s or early 30s. That’s just another way to say that we get mistaken for being a lot more naïve and inexperienced than we are. In most situations, that’s not a good thing!
Anyway, back to the story. So, a few months ago, I was in a convenience store and saw some alcohol (it was in a fun container, not a standard bottle). I recognized it as something I’d had a few years before at a party and decided to get one.
I took it up to the counter (at this point, I’m 23 – definitely old enough for them to ask for ID), and the cashier looks at me and says “You know that’s alcohol, right?”
It was in a fun container, so with my young looks, she thought I didn’t even know it was alcoholic! I had to fish out my ID and show her without her asking! Most people want to get to the age when they don’t get carded anymore, but I just want to look old enough to actually get carded.
As far as today goes, I haven’t done a whole lot so far. I don’t know about the rest of the day. I’m actually pretty awful at sitting and doing nothing. But for now, I’m going to sit and watch a movie. I would usually use my birthday as an excuse to have junk food and drink something, but it’s the middle of the week. I may have to do something fun this weekend.
